The Suitcase of Creativity’s Past

No joke, for the past five years, I’ve held on to a disgusting, old suitcase (a street find) that is filled with much of my student work from Pratt Institute. Until today, it’s musty confines not only housed finished work, but folders and stacks of “the process”(ie sketches, scraps and drafts) as well as unfinished projects which I used to tell myself I should/would/could finish someday. At some point I admitted to myself that I really had no interest in finishing any of these projects, and told myself that I have photographs of my best finished work, but I was still attached to something which prevented me from letting go.

More recently, I came to the realization that the suitcase and it’s contents were actually a physical representation of energy preventing me from moving forward with new creative projects. The connection came from something I practice all the time in my clairvoyant work: the infinite ability to create and destroy. Creating and destroying is a powerful way to let go of attachment, knowing that whatever you want can be created to fill the space. Hence, destruction is just as important as creation.

Alas I was finally Inspired to tackle the old creative baggage by one of Dana Claudat‘s tweets from today:

“That room, that box, that bag, that wallet you avoid? : clear it out, confront the contents, and watch your flow start to grow!#fengshui

My suitcase and it’s contents are curbed at the door for recycling first thing in the morning. Off to dream about how I want my new creative process to be!
